Specifically for the promotion of her musical output in Latin America, Mariah Carey recorded several Spanish version of some of her bigger hits for these markets, which became well-known renditions in the region.

Her success in Latin America was rather limited though. Nonetheless, Mariah's then-label Sony Music stated that they were in fact able to sell an additional 500,000 albums of Music Box in the region by using the strategy of recording a Spanish version of Hero, named Heroe,. This strategy would then also applied to both Daydream and Butterfly  in order to push sales in Latin America.

Mariah also holds a rather random chart record in the region with her elsewhere both commercially and critically poorly received cover of Foreigners I Want To Know What Love actually holding the #1 spot of the Singles Chart in Brazil for 27 consecutive weeks in 2009/2010, giving Mariah the longest-running #1 in the history of the country beating out Beyonce's Halo after being used as the title track of a very famous local soap opera.

Mariah's personal connection to the region was always strong with her father actually being half-Venezuelan. Later on in her professional career, she would  be further somehow "tied" with the Latin world by dating the regional superstar Luis Miguel, spending time in Puerto Rico and of course feuding with the nowadays global icon Jennifer Lopez in 2001 - resulting in her infamous "I don't know" quote.
